Hannah's 2nd Birthday

Our girl is 2 years old!

Hannah had a great birthday party celebration on Nov. 23 at our house. We had a house full of friends and family to celebrate, and even had some animals from a local petting zoo come to visit. The white duck was the biggest hit of all!

We served pizza for Hannah's birthday party, which is always her favorite.

This duck is trained as a "therapy" duck. It stayed on the chair without moving for at least 30 minutes. It also wore a diaper so it didn't poop all over my house.
The kids loved it. Hannah is standing in the pink dress.
If you look closely, you'll see a turtle on the carpet!

Caleb also had a fun time at the party.
Hannah and Nate blowing out her birthday candles.
Enjoying her birthday cake! She now asks for cake every day.

Caleb is also doing well. He will be 4 months old on Dec. 4, and it's amazing to see how much he has grown. He now weighs about 16 pounds and wears 9 month clothing. He's in size 3 diapers (Hannah is only one size ahead of him!)

Caleb can roll over in both directions, and is a very mellow baby. I've heard that second babies are usually more easy-going, and I've definitely noticed that with him. He still is up about 5 times a night, but we are working on it.

I take both kids to the doctor next week for check-ups (Hannah's 2 year, Caleb's 4 month), and will try to report back when I can!

Family of Four

It's been almost 8 months since my last post, and I apologize for not updating more often. Life has been much busier than ever before!

It's now November 1, and Hannah will be 2 in a few short weeks. Caleb is almost three months old already. Time is really flying.

Hannah has adjusted very well to having a baby in the house. We had a few issues with her behavior when Caleb was born in August, but she has outgrown them. She was waking up every hour or less at night the first week he came home. I think she wanted to see if we would still come to her. That has since stopped (thank goodness), but we are still up 4-5 times a night with Caleb. I'm hoping he becomes a better sleeper as he gets older because I'm very tired!

Hannah loves Caleb and gives him hugs and kisses all the time. She loves to sit next to him and hand him toys and other things. I encourage this behavior from her, but I did catch her putting a piece of food in his mouth once. Good thing I noticed in time before he choked on it!

I took Caleb to the doctor for his 2 month check-up and here were his stats:

13 pounds 4 ounces, 24 1/4 inches. That puts him at about 60th percentile for weight and 95th percentile for height. Both of our kids are very tall! He is breastfed, and won't take a bottle, much to mommy's dismay. We try every day to offer him a bottle and hope that one day he just takes it.

I won't know Hannah's height/weight until her 2 year appointment in early December. I do know she is very skinny and we are lucky if she eats one or two bites of food at mealtimes. It's been really tough to get her to eat anything. She is also addicted to the bottle and the pacifier. I don't even know where to begin to break her of those things. I'm thinking of just throwing out the bottles when she turns 2, but we'll see how it goes.

Hannah, 17 months

Every day, Hannah seems more and more like a toddler than a baby to me. She knows exactly what we are saying and can communicate with us pretty easily. She still only says a few words (Hi, bye, dada, mama, yeah) but we are working on it. For things she can't say, she'll point or gesture until we understand.

She expresses her opinion very clearly when she wants or doesn't want something and has mastered the temper tantrum. She mostly throws them when she doesn't get her way, which happens often. She's not into eating these days so if I try to get her to eat, she normally will scream and cry and throw herself on the ground kicking and punching. It's been a trying month for us!

What we've been up to

Earlier this month we took Hannah on a short trip to Delaware for Nathan's grandmother's funeral. It wasn't easy taking a toddler on an airplane, but we are all glad we went. My father-in-law's family had never met Hannah before and they were all thrilled to see her.

The weather here has been cold until today, so we haven't been able to do very much outside. Now that it appears spring has finally arrived, we look forward to going to the parks, zoos and lakes more often.

Some 17-month stats

Favorite foods: Pickles, dried apricots, yogurt (sometimes), macaroni and cheese
Clothing size: Just about to outgrow 18 month clothes, fits well into 18-24 month sizes
Shoe size: 5.5
Number of teeth: 6. Four on top, 2 on the bottom.
Major accidents: 1. she fell out of the highchair face first onto the hardwood floor last week. Luckily, she was just a little scraped and bruised with no major injuries.

Here are some photos of her recently to enjoy.

At the park on a rare sunny day last week.
Nap time! I love how cute she looks while she sleeps.
One of her favorite outdoor push toys. She likes to ride or push this down the sidewalk.
Her face after the highchair fall.
In Delaware at Mary Delack's funeral.
With the Easter Bunny. She LOVES characters dressed up and couldn't get enough of him.
 At a Barrington park.
Pushing her car through the neighborhood.
 In the tub.
Relaxing on the couch.

15-months

Hannah is definitely not a baby anymore! A lot has changed since her first birthday in November. She started walking in early January and hasn't slowed down since.

She runs everywhere she wants to go, and is constantly getting into everything she can get her hands on. She's as happy as ever, smiling and laughing all of the time. She says hi to everyone she sees and greets them with a wave. It's totally adorable.

Hannah is talking a little bit, and has a few words we can understand: "Mama" "Dada" "Hi" "Baby" and "Pop!" are the only ones I can decipher at this point. "Pop" came from the song "Pop! Goes the Weasel."

Another momentous milestone occurred last month: She started sleeping through the night! It only took about 14 months, but we made it! :)

One of her favorite activities is sitting in her chair and reading books. Books are her favorite things right now, which is so great to see!

She also loves wearing these sunglasses she got from Aunt Julia and Uncle Ryan (Nate's brother and sister-in-law)

Here she is on Valentine's Day with Grandma Becky opening her gifts she received. Her facial expression tells you just how excited she was!

Hannah was invited to a birthday party at a local gymnastics center. She enjoyed running all over the mats and looking at the other kids.

Our family went to see Disney on Ice for my birthday in February. Hannah enjoyed it, and was waving at all of the characters, hoping someone would see her. We had a blast watching her take it all in.

I'm sure most of you know that the Delack family is expecting another baby this summer! I am about 17 weeks pregnant right now and feeling fine. Getting bigger, but no nausea or anything like that. We were told last week that the baby is probably a boy, but we will have definite confirmation in three weeks. Here is a 3D photo from our 12 week ultrasound.

Hannah goes in for her 15-month check up tomorrow. I will do my best to update this site with information on her height/weight and all of that!
